Dear Cheverus Families,
As we approach the first week of school for the 2024/2025 school year, all of us at Cheverus are thrilled to be welcoming back new families and look forward to meeting all the new ones. As educators, we are blessed to be able to reset each summer and start each new year fresh, energized for another year. There are many exciting changes to share as we continue to make improvements and welcome new members of our faculty and staff.
This summer has been busy with our Summer Fun School, which included tutoring and robotics with Catapult Learning. Thanks to Mrs. Young and her great group of Cheverus counselors, students were allowed to enjoy the enrichment of camp in a familiar environment. The camp was staffed by our own faculty and staff and supported by Malden High School students, and former Cheverus students. There were trips to the park, live shows, beach days out front, and much more.
School improvements include the installation of a new carpet in the Spanish room in the middle school. In addition, our goals involve completing the preschool playground project, replacing more doors, and fixing the faculty parking lot. Last but not least, make sure to check out the fantastic new mural in the first-floor hallway created by our talented Art teacher, Ms. Candice Marcotte. Her skills are truly remarkable!
With EANS funding still available we plan to continue teacher coaching through Cor Creative, and summer tutoring with Catapult Learning. During the summer, we have been in ongoing discussions with Malden Catholic. The plan is to collaborate with them to provide extra programs for our middle school students, such as: An afterschool STEM Club, a cross-country team, a Big Buddy program, and more!
Most of our amazing faculty and staff have remained with a few additions and internal moves. As Ms. Rosa Viveros leaves middle school Spanish to pursue a position in our second grade, we welcome Mrs. Sandra Borecki as the new Spanish teacher. Mrs. Janine Hanley has left grade 3 after many years to join middle school as the new history teacher. Miss Ronda Young will take over grade 3. We also welcome our new preschool aide Ms. Tatiane Canedo and our new school nurse, Mrs. Jillian Gay. Our Level Coordinators remain the same and they include Miss Mary Beth Leon in early childhood, Mrs. Jaime Young for Kindergarten and grade 1, Mrs. Theresa Ronchetti for grade 2, gym, and art, Mrs. Lisa Cataldo for grades 3-5, and Mrs. Sandra Malatesta in the middle school.
It is going to be another great year, and we are so glad you have chosen to continue with or join the Cheverus family. We hope to see you all at the various Back to School nights and the Luau!
Sincerely,
Mr. Jeff Lane
Principal
