At Cheverus it is our goal to meet the needs of all our students. To more effectively do this, we are changing our cut-off age requirements. Through our teachers’ experience and outside research, it is evident that starting students who are younger can be detrimental to their academic, social emotional, and fine-motor development. Children who start school at an older age have been found to have a significant advantage over their younger classmates for years to come. Our focus is on the whole student and not just academics. We hope this change allows our students to thrive for years to come.
Here are our age requirements:
•Preschool students must turn 3 by October 31st to join that school year in September. oChildren whose birthdates are between September 16th and October 31st will be required to be in our early childhood program for 3 years (this includes 3 advancing levels readying them for our rigorous Kindergarten) •Pre-K students must turn 4 by September 15th to enroll. oStudents born before this date will be required to complete a year of preschool in our advanced room and then a year of Pre-K before entering Kindergarten. •Kindergarten students must turn 5 by September 15th oThere is also a screening test they must pass to attend.
