During the school year, we have so much learning to achieve and little time to do it; therefore, to help our classroom run smoothly and help students become SuperLearners, during the first few weeks we will spend time developing classroom expectations including rules and daily routines to follow so we can stay on pace and help students develop healthy school habits early on in their school career. Working Together (Our Classroom Family) In First Grade, Social Studies focuses on building a community, so in my classroom I consider ALL of us part of a CLASSROOM FAMILY. Together, we will support our students every step of the way in academic and developmental areas. I will send emails regarding different happenings in our classroom to keep you updated.
Blue Folder - Students will be given a “Blue” folder that will be used for homework and home notices. Monday – Friday. Students are expected to bring folders home and back to school daily
Snacks/Drinks - We will have a 15-minute movement/snack break in the morning. Please provide a healthy snack and drink. Please choose SMALL (4-6oz) healthy drinks. If your student brings water, the water bottle should fit into the side pocket of their backpack; no water bottles larger than the backpack pocket is allowed and at any time should students be carrying water bottles to and from school. This avoids spills and loss of water bottles. All student belongings will always be kept in their backpack during the school day for easy access. Lunch- If your student is getting a school lunch, please complete the school menu form every month. Lunch is free. If your student brings a home lunch, but would like a milk, milk cost is $0.50. Classroom Behavior/Management/Safety (Building Healthy School Habits)
It is important to have safety procedures, rules, and routines in our classroom develop healthy school habits early on helps students thrive in their school career. We establish a safe, creative, and fun environment for all students to succeed. All students are expected to follow school and classroom safety procedures, rules, and routines. We learn about being kind and respectful to each other, as well as to our classroom and school. For some, it takes time to settle in, if concerning behavior is noticed, I will contact you to discuss ways we can support our students to feel better. No problem is big enough for Miss M.! Homework - Homework is the extension of the skills and concepts we learn in daily lessons. Homework is assigned Monday - Thursday (I encourage nightly reading every day!). Students should complete the assignment neatly, correctly, and return it to school the following day. For example, after homework is complete and checked, students can build a routine by putting homework in their “Blue" folder and then right into their backpack ready for the morning. Sending Money $ - It is important that if you send money to school, please put it in an envelope or plastic bag with the student's name on it, the amount, and the reason for the money to avoid any issues or confusion. Keeping me Informed - Please keep me posted on your student happenings so I can be ready to better serve their needs, especially if they are attending EDP or going to be absent please send an email. School Hours - 7:40 - 2:00 pm. We meet for arrival and dismissal in the fenced in area of the school unless otherwise notified. Please make sure your student comes to school on-time, every day. Being on-time not only develops healthy school habits and students will not miss crucial learning and bonding time or disrupt classroom flow.
