Classroom Management
I expect that all kindergarten students will behave appropriately in the classroom. The following rules are what I feel to be reasonable behavioral goals. These goals were established to maintain order and facilitate learning in classroom. Please discuss the following rules with your child.
1. I will listen and follow directions.
2. I will always use good manners and show kindness.
3. I will be prepared for class, including my homework, classwork and supplies.
4. I will show respect to others and myself.
5. I will keep my hands, feet and other objects to myself.
6. I will raise my hand to speak.
7. I will always act in a Christian way.
Absences and Tardiness
If you anticipate an absence, dimissal, or tardiness, please email me. If your child is sick, please email me as soon as possible. Please also email the office.
It is extremely important for your child to arrive on time and to enter the building as a class. Mrs. Vieira will send the students up between 7:30 and 7:40 am. The first few minutes of the day are crucial. This is the time attendance and lunchcount are taken, homework is being checked, and directions are given for morning work. I truly appreciate your assistance in being certain your child is on time. It is also important that your child gets the message that being on time is important. Dismissal is at 1:50 pm. Your child will be released after all the students make it down the stairs safely and all students are lined up. I will match up parents and students. Your child will only be released to an adult for the safety of your child. If other family members or friends are picking up your child, please inform me ahead of time.
Conferences
Individual conferences may be arranged upon request. The easiest way to schedule a conference is to email me. Formal school wide conferences are held twice a year, in the fall and spring, when report cards are emailed.
Quality of Work
Considering varing abilities, I expect a maximum effort from each child. The quality of a child's work should reflect effort in the areas of content and neatness. The final product should always make your child proud of his/her work.
Birthdays
You may send in cupcakes, cookies, goodie bags, juice boxes or any small treat for the class. Please let me know ahead of time. There are 18 students in the class.
Independence
One of the main goals in kindergarten is to facilitate independence. Please teach your child to button and zip their own jacket and to turn sleeves that are inside out. If your child wears a belt, make sure he/she can undo and fasten it on his/her own. Also, work with your child on learning to tie shoes.
