Welcome everyone,
I am thrilled to be addressing you all regarding the 2022/23 school year. This is Cheverus’ 114th year as a Catholic School in Malden! Once strictly a parish school for Sacred Hearts, we now proudly serve our religiously and culturally diverse community with representation from over 40 countries. We are excited to be starting this school year under somewhat more normal circumstances than the past couple of years but, of course, we will still be vigilant about COVID and continue to follow CDC guidelines in order to keep our community as safe as possible.
As we start a new chapter in the rich history of Cheverus, we welcome some new faces and, some familiar faces have taken on new roles. Our new teachers include Ms. Laurie Monteforte in grade 1 and Ms. Sarah Moran at the front desk. Our preschool seats filled faster than ever this summer and we have hired 3 new teachers! They are Ms. Jennilee Salvador, Ms. Allison Ronchetti, who some of you may remember as Miss Kathy’s aide last year, and we welcome back Ms. Christian DeAvilla to our preschool program. Some other changes include, Ms. Angela England-Castro taking on grade 4, and Ms. Briana Sachetta moving to Kindergarten.
While some of our veteran teachers will continue to teach, they will now also be Level Coordinators. These individuals include Ms. Marybeth Leon, Ms. Jaime Young, Ms. Theresa Ronchetti, Ms. Lisa Cataldo, and Ms. Sandra Malatesta. This role is slightly different than last year, as there will not be a vice principal, and these individuals will be more involved in their level coordinator roles. Also, Miss Kathy Hoff will be running our voucher program and EEC Compliance and Ms. Janine Hanley will be our Religion Coordinator. Our Title I services will return to after school and will be staffed by our dedicated teachers.
You’ll notice our schoolyard is now surrounded by fencing. This will cut down on outside foot traffic and create a safer environment for all. We have also just adopted CrisisGo, a platform that will allow us to more efficiently alert teachers and parents to any safety issues in the building. It will also allow for student attendance in the unlikely event we do have a school emergency. This new program also has a feature where students can report suspicious activity online. We look forward to the peace-of-mind this will bring for all, as well as the ability to run more structured drills.
It's going to be an amazing school year with a plethora of new events and the return of some old favorites. We plan to finally bring back the Christmas Pageant this year, along with afterschool clubs and sports. We will also be implementing into our curriculum The Social Institute, which will be used to teach online/social media safety to our Middle School. This will be headed up by our counselor, Ms. Megan Caplan, who will continue to utilize the City Connects program, which allows us to find resources and activities for students in need of them. The computer lab will once again be open to teachers for use, allowing students to hone their technology skill through practical lessons incorporating our recently upgraded desktop computers. Finally, we will again be raffling off a free tuition to one lucky family which will support our Annual Gala.
We are so happy you have chosen to send your children to Cheverus Catholic School, and we look forward to a successful school year.
Sincerely,
Jeff Lane
Principal
